Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

Osteopathic medicine is a "whole person" approach to medicine—treating the entire person rather than just the symptoms.  With a focus on preventive health care, Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) help patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that don't just fight illness, but help prevent it, too. Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a central theme that shapes the treatment philosophy of the DO. This type of hands on treatment will correct pathologic conditions in the body, called somatic dysfunctions, that have a negative impact on the patients overall health.  Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is the use of OMT when applied to the overall physiology of the patient and takes into consideration all of the medical conditions the patient may have.

Primary Care Sports Medicine

Primary Care Sports Medicine Physicians have additional fellowship training (1-2 years in addition to 3+ years of residency training) and are trained to diagnose and treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal system disorders as well as medical conditions that affect the overall health and performance of the patient. This includes acute injuries like sprains and strains, non-surgical fractures, and dislocations as well as chronic injuries caused by overuse or normal wear and tear. One of the most important skills a sports medicine physician develops during their training and education is the ability to diagnose the cause of a patient’s pain and develop comprehensive treatment plans based on their findings.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy is a specialized field of medicine that uses a range of techniques to help you recover from injuries, reduce pain, and improve your overall mobility.  We begin with a thorough evaluation of your condition, using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and techniques to identify the root cause of your pain or discomfort. From there, we develop a personalized treatment plan that incorporates a range of Physical Therapy techniques, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and many others.  Our licensed physical therapist has extensive experience working with patients of all ages and conditions, providing personalized and evidence-based treatment plans that address your unique needs and goals. Our goal is to help you achieve optimal recovery and healing, allowing you to regain your quality of life and return to your daily activities.

Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative Medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on developing and applying new treatments to heal tissues and restore function.  Damaged tissues can be due to disease, injuries, trauma, and or aging.  When specifically applied to the musculoskeletal system the term Orthobiologics is often used.  The basis of regenerative medicine is focused on the body's innate ability to heal itself given the proper cellular environment of the injured tissue.  Often this involves education, diet, rest, appropriate exercise as well as either the stimulation of the bodies natural processes or the concentration of the factors already present in the body of the patient.  Four of the more common regenerative medicine procedures available to you here at New Mexico Osteopathic Medicine are: Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT), Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy (PRP), Prolotherapy Injection Therapy, and our non injection based Extracorporeal Focused Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT).
